World Dance Group teachers
My earliest memories are of dancing in the fields and countryside around my childhood home. Dancing has always been in my feet and body as well as in my heart.
I have been teaching dance and leading dance events since 1985. In 1988 I was awarded the Royal Society of Arts Certificate (Distinction) in teaching movement and I am also a qualified folk dance teacher with the Society for International Folk Dance and registered as a teacher within the Circle Dance network. I danced for over 10 years with Nottingham Greek dance group.
In 1989 I launched Nottingham World dance and Circle Dance group.
In 2007 I founded Kilikia dances for Armenia group which provides classes, performances and information about Armenia and Armenian dance.
In 2010 I founded Nottingham Dance Meditation group which is inspired by my study of dance, yoga and travels especially in India.
In 2014 I fulfilled a 20 year wish by studying and training to teach yoga.I now hold additional yoga qualifications in yoga nidra and restorative yoga at general and advanced level.
During the 2020/21 Covid lockdown I fulfilled another long held ambition to study to become a qualified sound therapist.
I take my influences and inspirations from the many teachers I have danced and studied with, from my extensive travels and journeys to study culture and dance around the world, from nature and from music to create something unique which I call world dance.
Elaine has danced with the group for many years and often helps out running classes and events with her own lovely and enthusiastic style. She is particulary skilled at teaching young people and children.
